Meeting with Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki in Warsaw, Poland

LG Chairman Koo Kwang-mo Meets Polish Prime Minister to Seek Support for Busan Expo Bid

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Sun-mi] Koo Kwang-mo, Chairman of LG Group, paid a courtesy call on Mateusz Morawiecki, Prime Minister of Poland, and requested support for the bid to host the ‘2030 Busan World Expo’.

According to LG on the 4th, the meeting held at the Prime Minister’s Office in Warsaw, Poland, was attended by Koo Kwang-mo, Chairman of LG, Im Hun-min, Ambassador to Poland, Kim Dong-myung, Head of the Automotive Battery Division at LG Energy Solution, and Lee Cheon-guk, LG Electronics’ Europe Regional Head.

At the meeting, Chairman Koo first expressed gratitude, saying that the growth of LG Energy Solution’s battery plant in Wrocław to account for about half of LG’s global battery production was greatly helped by Prime Minister Morawiecki’s interest and support. Prime Minister Morawiecki had attended the groundbreaking ceremony of LG Energy Solution’s Wrocław battery plant in 2016 as Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economic Development.

Chairman Koo said, “Busan is South Korea’s second-largest city and a place of great significance for LG as it was where we first started our business. Many Korean companies originated and took off here, becoming the driving force behind the development of Korean industry today.” He added, “I hope that Busan will be the venue for communication about the ‘new hope and future’ that the World Expo pursues.” He also said, “Especially, all Korean people have a more passionate heart for hosting the World Expo than any other country.”

Chairman Koo and the officials also conveyed their hope that South Korea and Poland will develop a more future-oriented relationship, and that LG will fulfill its role as a company in that process.

Since the establishment of diplomatic relations between South Korea and Poland in 1989, more than 300 Korean companies, including LG, have entered Poland. The two countries have recently continued discussions on cooperation in fields such as defense and energy. After completing the schedule to meet the Polish Prime Minister, Chairman Koo plans to move to Wrocław and visit the LG Energy Solution battery plant.
