Cultural Heritage Administration Holds 'Hanbok Life' Intangible Cultural Heritage Event at Gyeongbokgung Today
Professor Kim Sohyun, Director Choi Eungcheon Promote Various Charms of Hanbok
A Cultural Heritage Administration event commemorating the designation of 'Hanbok Lifestyle' as a National Intangible Cultural Heritage will be held at 3 p.m. on the 1st at Heungbokjeon Hall in Gyeongbokgung Palace. The event will introduce the thoughts of groups who voluntarily enjoy Hanbok through discussions and performances.
The discussion will include Professor Kim Sohyun from Baewha Women's University, 'F-stargram' from Yale Design High School, 'Kkotshin-eul Singo' from Duksung Women's University, Hanbok culture activist Kwon Miru, and Cultural Heritage Administrator Choi Eungcheon. They represent teenagers, people in their 20s, 30s to 40s, and those aged 50 and above, respectively, promoting the charm of Hanbok.
The keynote speech will be delivered by Professor Kim, explaining the background of Hanbok Lifestyle's designation as a National Intangible Cultural Heritage and the significance of enjoying Hanbok.
F-stargram is a group that has developed and sold Hanbok-related products for foreigners at Gyeongbokgung Palace and donated the proceeds to a foundation. On stage, they will discuss with pansori singer Kim Bongyoung about 'Why We Went to Gyeongbokgung Palace.'
'Kkotshin-eul Singo' is a club formed following the Silla Hotel Hanbok refusal incident. They hold Hanbok parties on campus. On this day, they will promote various charms of Hanbok under the theme 'We Play Wearing Hanbok!'
Kwon Miru is the head of the nonprofit organization Hanbok Travelers. She has traveled to about eighty countries wearing Hanbok. She will share the background and foreign reactions. Administrator Choi will express specific views on the meaning of Hanbok Lifestyle.
The event will begin and end with 'Dadumi Arirang' performed by the Mungyeong Saejae Arirang Preservation Society and 'Ganggangsullae' performed by all participants, respectively. The Mungyeong Saejae Arirang Preservation Society is a group voluntarily formed by village residents to inherit and promote Mungyeong Saejae Arirang. They contribute to popularizing Arirang by transcribing and creating lyrics for Mungyeong Saejae Arirang.
