Jeju Dongbu Police Station, Teacher Who Hit and Swore at Student Booked
[Asia Economy Culture Young Intern Reporter] A teacher who assaulted a middle school student is under police investigation.
Jeju Eastern Police Station announced on the 30th that they have booked and are investigating a middle school teacher A from Jeju on charges of assaulting a student (violation of the Child Welfare Act).
A is accused of taking a 3rd-grade student B, who was leaving school, to the teachers' office around 5 p.m. on the 22nd and hitting his torso multiple times and verbally abusing him because he did not properly greet him.
Other students who witnessed the assault reported it to the police, leading to the investigation.
A is known to have stated to the police that "it was part of student guidance." A school official said, "The offending teacher was immature. He is deeply remorseful. We have taken measures to separate the teacher and the victim student so they do not encounter each other. We are considering external psychological support for the victim student."
The Jeju Provincial Office of Education plans to convene a disciplinary committee to determine the level of discipline once the police investigation is complete.
