Expectations for Traffic Congestion Relief at Changhyeon Intersection
[Asia Economy Reporter Ra Young-cheol] Namyangju City in Gyeonggi Province announced on the 30th that "the construction of a new entrance ramp at Hwado Interchange (IC) on the Seoul?Chuncheon Expressway has been completed and is scheduled to open at midnight on October 1."
The 'Hwado IC New Entrance Ramp Project' was promoted to alleviate severe traffic congestion around Changhyeon Intersection by installing a first lane entrance ramp and Hi-Pass facilities on the Seoul?Chuncheon Expressway.
Earlier, after conducting a feasibility study on improving traffic congestion at Changhyeon Intersection in December 2018, the city signed a consignment agreement last October with Seoul Chuncheon Expressway Co., Ltd. regarding construction promotion, maintenance, and project cost burden.
Accordingly, Seoul Chuncheon Expressway Co., Ltd. took charge of construction and maintenance, while Namyangju City was responsible for permits and project costs (3.85 billion KRW). Construction began in December last year and was completed in about nine months.
Joo Gwang-deok, Mayor of Namyangju City, said, "We expect that the installation of the new entrance ramp at Hwado IC will improve accessibility to the Seoul?Chuncheon Expressway for residents of Changhyeon-ri and Chasan-ri in Hwado-eup."
Meanwhile, the city expects that the left-turn travel time at Changhyeon Intersection for vehicles entering the Seoul?Chuncheon Expressway from Changhyeon Bridge will be reduced by about 25 seconds, from the existing 97.7 seconds to 71.9 seconds per vehicle, due to the new entrance ramp at Hwado IC.
