Father Who Abused with Baseball Bat Sentenced to 1 Year 6 Months

[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Juri] A woman in her 20s who was charged with pushing her 3-year-old daughter to death for not listening was sentenced to 7 years in prison.
On the 30th, the Daegu District Court Criminal Division 11 (Chief Judge Lee Sang-oh) sentenced Ms. A, who was arrested and indicted on charges of child abuse resulting in death for abusing her biological daughter, to 7 years in prison, ordered her to attend a 40-hour child abuse treatment program, and imposed a 10-year employment ban at child-related institutions.
Mr. B, the father who was also indicted on charges of abusing the daughter (child abuse under the Child Welfare Act), was sentenced to 1 year and 6 months in prison with a 2-year probation. He was also ordered to perform 160 hours of community service, attend 40 hours of child abuse prevention education, and was banned from employment at child-related institutions for 7 years.
Ms. A is accused of abusing her 3-year-old daughter about 10 times, including hitting her for not controlling her bladder and bowels and lying, and on May 12th around 6 p.m. at her home in Dong-gu, Daegu, she pushed her daughter, causing a head injury that led to her death.
She reported to 119 that her daughter was not breathing, and although the daughter was taken to the hospital and treated, she died three days later.
Mr. B is accused of neglecting Ms. A’s abusive acts and abusing the daughter 11 times by hitting her face with a plastic baseball bat or a fishing rod.
The court stated, "The defendants, as legal guardians and co-parents, abused or neglected the abuse of a defenseless child, causing significant physical and mental suffering to the victim child," and added, "Ms. A abused the victim child for nearly a year and caused the child’s death the day after her 4th birthday, which is a grave offense."
