A kickoff meeting for the Gyeongsangnam-do 4 Major National Projects Proactive Response Special Task Force (TF) was held.
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Seryeong] On the 30th, Gyeongsangnam-do held a kickoff meeting for the special task force (TF) to proactively respond to the four major national projects.
The task force was established to utilize large-scale national projects such as Jinhae New Port, Gadeok New Airport, Southern Inland Railway, and the 2030 Busan World Expo.
Gyeongnam Province stated that it has been operating the special team to comprehensively link ongoing research in various fields related to major national projects at the provincial level and to use these large-scale national projects as an opportunity for regional innovation.
The overall special team consists of 18 members, including seven advisory committee members who are external experts such as university professors, researchers, and industry practitioners in related fields of urban, transportation, logistics, industry, economy, culture, and tourism; five PhDs from the Gyeongnam Research Institute; and six provincial directors.
The province plans to gather diverse ideas through field-specific working special teams.
The special team will operate in the first phase until December to derive field-specific response strategies for the four major national projects, followed by a second phase to further concretize these strategies.
According to the province, the meeting first reviewed the major issues of each national project and the current policy directions being pursued by the province.
They also examined cases of urban growth based on tri-port systems such as Dubai's Jebel Ali Port, Etihad Railway, and Al Maktoum International Airport.
Discussions were held on parts applicable to Gyeongsangnam-do through the development achievements of Incheon Airport hinterland city, Korea’s first economic free zone development case.
Choi Man-rim, Deputy Governor for Administration, said, “We must develop a new economic growth axis in our region based on large-scale national projects such as Jinhae New Port, Gadeok New Airport, and railways,” adding, “We need to prepare in advance ways to maximize the economic effects for our province when the 2030 Busan Expo is held.”
