‘Vegetarian Meal Cooking Demonstration’ Reveals Easy Low-Carbon Healthy Recipes
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] Seoul City announced on the 30th that it will hold the "Seoul Climate Gourmet Gathering" at the car-free street in Cheonggye Plaza as part of promoting low-carbon eating habits in celebration of World Vegetarian Day.
This event was planned to propose "a vegetarian meal for the Earth" to citizens as one of the various practical ways to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The event will feature demonstrations of healthy and delicious dishes that minimize greenhouse gas emissions by using seasonal, plant-based ingredients produced locally.
During the three-day "Vegetarian Meal Cooking Demonstration," four chefs will showcase the process of making simple, low-carbon healthy dishes using seasonal, domestically produced plant-based ingredients.
The cooking demonstrations will include explanations about the characteristics and nutrition of the ingredients, Q&A sessions with participants, and tasting corners. After the demonstrations, there will be time for tasting and conversations with the chefs. Alongside the Climate Gourmet Gathering, the World Culture Festival will host a low-carbon green growth cooking contest featuring kimchi on-site, raising awareness among visitors about the importance of low-carbon eating habits. Additionally, the Seoul Climate Gourmet Gathering will be conducted as an event minimizing disposable items by providing plates made from rice crackers and biodegradable tableware made from corn.
At the Seoul Climate Gourmet Gathering site, visitors can taste and enjoy low-carbon food products such as ?ice cream ?yogurt ?alternative meat jerky ?bread ??wine ?wood-fired pizza ?cosmetics ?daily necessities.
The event will also feature a low-carbon eating habit book caf? where visitors can relax and access information about climate and environment. The book caf? will have books related to climate, environment, and low-carbon eating habits, and provide a comfortable space with chairs for rest. Games such as roulette and board games will also be available.
Furthermore, an environmental education program will be offered to help participants understand the impact of global warming and climate change on daily life and learn ways to respond to climate change, including participating in low-carbon meals in everyday life. Participants will have the opportunity to think about practical ways to live a low-carbon lifestyle through various activities such as watching videos on low-carbon food topics, solving step-by-step quizzes, and experiencing making carbon dioxide absorption environmental tools.
Meanwhile, Seoul City announced that it will also conduct online promotions to raise awareness of the importance of low-carbon eating habits among more citizens. The "Zero Seoul Vegetarian Meal Challenge," which involves submitting photos certifying vegetarian meals, will be held for three weeks from October 1 to 21.
Yoo Yeon-sik, Head of the Climate and Environment Headquarters, said, "We hope that this Seoul Climate Gourmet Gathering will be an opportunity for citizens to empathize with the importance of eating habits for the Earth," and added, "Seoul City will continue to present various practical activities to citizens to respond to the climate crisis."
