[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Gwanak-gu (Mayor Park Jun-hee) is hosting, and the Gwanak Cultural Foundation is organizing the ‘2022 Gwanak Gang Gam-chan Festival,’ which will be held for three days from October 14 to 16 at Nakseongdae Park in Gwanak-gu, the city of General Gang Gam-chan.

The ‘Gwanak Gang Gam-chan Festival’ is a festival honoring the historical value and patriotic spirit of General Gang Gam-chan. However, to share the hearts of residents affected by last month’s heavy rain damage, the traditional parade has been canceled, and a flood recovery support program focused on sharing happiness will be conducted.

Through various methods of sharing such as advance item donations, online donations, and on-site donations, it is expected that the comforting spirit will be conveyed to all residents.

Advance item donations involve donating items before the festival, which will be auctioned on the day of the festival, with all proceeds donated to the Community Chest of Korea. Those who wish to donate items can visit the Single Bungle Education Center on the 5th floor, the festival office, or send items by courier.

Online donations are possible through the ‘Flood Recovery Support Participation’ board on the Gwanak Gang Gam-chan Festival website until the 16th. After selecting the fundraising product as ‘one-time support’ and submitting a wish, the wish will be displayed as a wish lantern in the Wish Tunnel at the Star Photo Zone on the day of the festival. The wish reception corner will also operate on the day of the festival.

On-site donations are also possible. Visitors can convey their precious hearts through ‘Donation for Mood-UP, Small Donation Boxes’ installed throughout the festival venue.

Additionally, flea markets, food trucks, and the Gang Gam-chan Cafe participating in ‘Goryeo Folk Village, Byeokrando 21’ will also donate part of their proceeds to join the program.

Mr. Kang, a resident running a store in Gwanak-gu, said, “Although I had difficulties restoring facilities due to the recent heavy rain damage, I want to contribute even a little to those who need help more than I do,” and participated in the advance donation.

Mayor Park Jun-hee said, “General Gang Gam-chan was known for his integrity and for sharing his wealth with the people and soldiers. Following this, I hope this festival will not only be a festival to enjoy but also an opportunity to feel warm sharing and find hope.”

Geumcheon-gu (Mayor Yoo Sung-hoon) will hold the ‘Great Pet Festival’ at 1 p.m. on October 16 in the plaza of Geumcheon-gu Office.

The Great Pet Festival was prepared to establish the foundation of a companion culture where people and animals live happily together and to spread awareness of respect for life. The event is organized by the non-profit civic organization (Corporation) City Without Stray Dogs, specializing in companion culture education and events.

The event will start with a ‘Petiquette OX Quiz’ and a lucky draw for attendees. Then, a competition called ‘Companion Dog Sports Day,’ where participants complete a designated course with their dogs in the shortest time, will be held.

At the participation area, free grooming, free health and behavior consultations, and walking classes will be offered. At the experience area, various booths will operate where visitors can engage in activities such as making leashes, name tags, handmade snacks, and caricatures.

Registration for the Companion Dog Sports Day will be accepted on-site on the day of the event, and anyone can participate in the various experience booths without prior registration.

Mayor Yoo Sung-hoon of Geumcheon-gu said, “In an era where the number of pet-owning households exceeds fifteen million, we have prepared a festival where people and animals can interact and enjoy together,” adding, “We expect the Great Pet Festival to greatly contribute not only to fostering a desirable companion culture but also to raising awareness of respect for life.”
