Victim Harassed by Stalking Crime Commits Suicide... Suspect Prosecuted Without Detention

Court Rejects Arrest Warrant Request

Victim Harassed by Stalking Crime Commits Suicide... Suspect Prosecuted Without Detention It was later revealed that a victim suffering from stalking crimes in Daegu took their own life.

[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Jung-wan] It was recently revealed that a victim suffering from stalking crimes in Daegu made an extreme choice.

According to Yonhap News, on the 29th, the Daegu District Prosecutors' Office Western Branch announced that a victim who had been stalked by an ex-lover since February took an extreme step, and the suspect was prosecuted without detention.

At that time, the police sent the suspect to prosecution without detention, and after additional investigation by the prosecution, a detention warrant was requested, but the court dismissed it on the grounds that there was no risk of flight or evidence tampering.

A prosecution official said, "We are providing support such as requesting psychological treatment for the victim's bereaved family," and added, "It is difficult to disclose detailed information about the case as there is a risk of identifying the victim."

Separately, the Western Branch announced that it had detained an illegal camera filming suspect through supplementary investigation after the detention warrant was dismissed during the police investigation.

Accordingly, A (44), who is accused of filming the body parts of unspecified multiple women with a mobile phone camera 12 times at subway stations, bus stops, and other locations in Daegu city from July 18 last year to June this year (violation of the Act on Special Cases Concerning the Punishment, etc. of Sexual Crimes), was recently detained and prosecuted.

A prosecution official stated, "The detention warrant for A was dismissed on the grounds that the defendant's right to defense needed to be guaranteed, but after confirming additional crimes, the prosecution re-requested the detention warrant."
