[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] Busan City and the 2030 Busan World Expo Citizen Committee held the ‘Busan Expo Forum’ at 10 a.m. on the 29th at BEXCO Convention Hall.

This forum was held under the theme ‘Discussing the Value of the Expo and the Future of Busan’ to establish the rationale for hosting the 2030 Busan World Expo. It was organized to enhance practical cooperation among experts in various fields in preparation for the onsite inspection and competitive presentations.

The forum was co-hosted and organized by Busan City, the Citizen Committee for the Expo, and the Expo & MICE Research Center of Busan National University’s Institute of Economic and Trade Studies.

The forum began with an opening ceremony at 10 a.m. at BEXCO Convention Hall and proceeded in morning and afternoon sessions.

The opening ceremony was attended by about 100 people, including Lee Young-hwal, Executive Vice Chairman of the Busan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Expo-related experts, professors, civic group officials, and online pre-registered participants. Representing Mayor Park Hyung-joon, who was on a business trip to Latin America and other regions for promotion and negotiation activities related to the 2030 Busan World Expo, Lee Seong-gwon, Deputy Mayor for Economic Affairs of Busan City, attended.

Following this, the forum featured a keynote presentation titled ‘Climate Change and EXPO’ by Professor Lee Jun-yi of Busan National University, and a comprehensive discussion chaired by Kim Itaek, Research Chairman of the Citizen Committee, with five panelists participating.

In the afternoon, various academic and expert presentations and discussions on Expo-related research topics and directions were held in six sessions.

A notable point of this forum was the participation of a total of 43 scholars and experts from across the country. They engaged in in-depth discussions on the fundamental direction of the Expo, various ripple effects through hosting, and post-event utilization plans.

It also served as an opportunity to persuasively inform citizens supporting the 2030 Busan World Expo about the value and significance of the Expo.

Lee Seong-gwon, Deputy Mayor for Economic Affairs of Busan City, said, “We expect this to be a platform for forming academic discourse discussing the social, economic, urban, promotional, and post-management impacts and changes that the 2030 Busan World Expo will have on the local community as a whole.”

The Deputy Mayor added, “I hope that active public discussions among experts and citizens will further ignite the passion for hosting the 2030 Busan World Expo.”
