[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Suwon City in Gyeonggi Province will relocate the 'Resource Recovery Facility' after public discussion.
On the 29th, Suwon Mayor Lee Jae-jun announced at the Suwon Convention Center the "Future Vision for the Resource Recovery Facility and Conflict Management Plan for the 8th Elected Term," stating, "We will form a 'Dedicated Organization for Promoting the Relocation of the Resource Recovery Facility,' led by the second vice mayor and involving all related departments."
He continued, "We will conduct a feasibility study to select an appropriate site for relocating the Resource Recovery Facility and research ways to minimize environmental impacts around the facility," promising, "We will review potential relocation sites from multiple perspectives and hold working-level consultations with neighboring cities regarding the installation of a 'Metropolitan Incineration Plant.'"
The mayor added, "We will address citizen inconveniences that may arise during the relocation period of the Resource Recovery Facility," and "We will carry out facility improvement projects to ensure the safety of residents living near the Resource Recovery Facility."
Suwon City plans to strengthen environmental impact investigations, including dioxin toxicity, air quality, soil, and odor, and transparently disclose the inspection results to citizens to enhance trust in the operation of the Resource Recovery Facility.
Additionally, during the relocation process, the current facility will be maintained safely and stably by repairing incinerators and emission facilities, and improving resident convenience facilities.
Furthermore, to proactively respond to sudden crisis situations such as the suspension of the Resource Recovery Facility operation due to government policies, a transfer station for municipal waste will be installed.
The city will also expand support for areas surrounding the Resource Recovery Facility.
The mayor emphasized, "Based on residents' opinions, we will expand the support scope for areas around the Resource Recovery Facility and increase support projects for residents experiencing inconveniences," adding, "We will prioritize the opinions of the residents."
For conflict management, the mayor proposed measures including ▲ establishing an Innovation Integrated Civil Complaints Office (tentative name) to minimize conflicts ▲ operating an 'On-site Mayor's Office' ▲ and seeking solutions through public discussion.
The mayor promised, "At the Innovation Integrated Civil Complaints Office, veteran public officials will take responsibility for resolving citizens' complaints," and "We will operate an 'On-site Mayor's Office' at locations where citizens experience inconveniences to address issues. For matters that remain unresolved, we will seek solutions through public discussion, as in the case of the Resource Recovery Facility."
