[Asia Economy Reporter Seongpil Cho] On the afternoon of the 29th, the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency announced that it is conducting a joint training exercise at the Seoul Police Special Forces training center in Seocho-gu to prepare for a complex terrorist attack involving drones.

The training, which runs for about two and a half hours from 1:30 PM, involves more than 170 personnel from five related agencies including the police, Seoul Fire and Disaster Headquarters, Capital Defense Command, Environmental Agency, and Public Health Center. A total of 21 pieces of equipment, including police helicopters and chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear (CBRN) decontamination vehicles, are deployed. The exercise simulates a scenario involving explosives and CBRN terrorism using drones. During the process of suppressing hostage-takers inside a building, the police conduct training using drones. Frontline police chiefs receive education on initial counterterrorism measures and the international terrorism situation. To aid understanding of counterterrorism tactics, a counterterrorism equipment exhibition is also held alongside the training site.

A police official stated, "We plan to actively reflect the issues discussed among agencies during the preparation of this joint training in future security policies," adding, "We will maintain close cooperation to do our best to protect citizens' lives and property in the event of a terrorist attack."
