Gyeongbuk Fire Equipment Management Center, Maintenance of 52 Fire Trucks and 36 Power Fire Pumps
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Gwiyeol] The Gyeongbuk Fire Equipment Management Center supported recovery site activities by maintaining a total of 88 fire trucks and power fire pumps deployed in the Pohang area, which suffered significant human and property damage due to Typhoon Hinnamnor from the 7th to the 24th over 17 days.
Since its establishment in 2011 in Hyoryeong-myeon, Gunwi, as the first of its kind nationwide, the Gyeongbuk Fire Equipment Management Center employs 10 fire officers holding specialized vehicle maintenance certifications.
The center maintains 100% operational status of all fire trucks and firefighting equipment in the province through regular self-maintenance.
For this typhoon damage recovery site, an on-site vehicle maintenance center was deployed, conducting pre-inspections and promptly addressing defects such as overloads in power fire pumps caused by prolonged drainage work and wildfire suppression vehicles used in cleaning operations.
The main malfunctions of firefighting equipment included 25 cases of starting failures in power fire pumps, 9 cases of vacuum pump operation failures, and 2 cases of battery voltage issues, totaling 36 cases. These were swiftly repaired on-site through carburetor cleaning, spark plug replacement, and vacuum pump filter cleaning to assist drainage activities.
Lee Young-pal, head of the Gyeongbuk Fire Headquarters, stated, “For perfect response at disaster sites, the normal operation of firefighting equipment is very important,” and added, “We will continue to thoroughly maintain and inspect firefighting equipment to ensure no gaps in field activities.”
