[Asia Economy Sejong=Reporter Kim Hyewon] Nonghyup's representative kimchi brand, 'Korean Nonghyup Kimchi,' held a shipment ceremony on the 29th to commemorate its first export to the United States, opening the door to the U.S. market.
The initial shipment for this export consists of a total of 15 tons (worth approximately $90,000) of whole cabbage kimchi and other varieties, marking its entry into the U.S. following exports to major Asian countries such as Japan and Hong Kong.
The initial export volume will be sold through NH Nonghyup Trading at representative Korean community marts in the Korean resident areas of Los Angeles on the U.S. West Coast, including Galleria and Greenland stores. To expand market share in the U.S., starting in October, various marketing activities will be conducted, including a 'Korean Nonghyup Kimchi New Store Opening Promotion' at local stores, promotions through various online and offline media, and buyer consultation meetings.
Korean Nonghyup Kimchi, launched in April this year, recorded export sales of $838,000 to Japan, Guam, Hong Kong, and other locations as of the end of August, just four months after its launch, achieving more than half of this year's target of $1.5 million.
Lee Seonghee, Chairman of the Nonghyup Central Association, said, "Since Korean Nonghyup Kimchi was launched with the determination to uphold the pride of the kimchi homeland, it is made with honesty and trust based on good ingredients," adding, "We will make efforts to actively enter overseas markets, promote the taste and excellence of Korean Nonghyup Kimchi worldwide, and establish it as a representative export item of the Republic of Korea."
