Gangjin-gun, Promoting New Village Development to Overcome Population Cliff

Creating a 150-Unit Village in Imcheon District to Attract Urban Population Influx

Gangjin-gun, Promoting New Village Development to Overcome Population Cliff

[Gangjin=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-su] Gangjin-gun, Jeollanam-do, has begun full-scale efforts to attract urban residents by creating new villages.

On the 28th, Gangjin-gun held a meeting for the creation of new villages at the Sincheon Village Hall in Gangjin-eup, attended by about 30 people including landowners in the Imcheon district, Gangjin-gun Governor Gang Jin-won, and related officials.

The meeting was organized to explain the new village development project in the Imcheon district and to gather various opinions from landowners. Approximately 57,000 pyeong (about 188,000 square meters) will be included in the project area as the first target site for the new village development project.

Due to its geographical proximity to Gangjin-eup, the presence of a reservoir in front, and mountains behind, it offers a perfect location with the ideal "Baesanimsu" (mountain at the back, water in front) condition. It is expected to attract high interest from housing demanders once the residential land development is completed.

The county expects to create a village with 130 to 150 households here. Once the village development begins in earnest, the county plans to support infrastructure such as access roads, village streets, and water and sewage systems.

The new village development project is a key policy initiative promoted by the county to achieve the core goal of the 8th term of the new Gangjin era: reaching a population of 50,000 in Gangjin. The plan is to create a total of 1,000 new village households in villages of 50 to 100 households each, and remodel 1,000 vacant houses to establish 2,000 country houses.

The county will not only create villages but also support income generation by enabling participation as operating farms for Gangjin-gun’s representative lifestyle tourism products such as Puso experience, providing comprehensive support so that urban residents dreaming of a new life in the countryside can settle as "new family members" of Gangjin.

Governor Gang Jin-won said, "Overcoming the crisis of regional extinction through population inflow is an immediate task facing our county," and added, "We will carefully review the opinions presented at this meeting and spare no administrative support to ensure the successful completion and sale of the Imcheon district, the first start of the new village development project."
