Initial 15,000 Bottles Released in August Sold Out in One Month
Unprecedented Sales Record... Sales to Resume Mid-October
Value and Quality Recognized Despite High Price Over 100,000 Won
[Asia Economy Reporter Eunmo Koo] HiteJinro's premium distilled soju "Jinro 1924 Heritage," which sold out its initial stock within a month of launch, is set to return in mid-next month with double the quantity.
According to industry sources on the 30th, HiteJinro plans to resume sales of Jinro 1924 Heritage around mid-next month. The subsequent shipment is reported to be more than twice the initial quantity of 15,000 bottles.
Previously, HiteJinro announced that the initial stock of Jinro 1924 Heritage, officially released on the 18th of last month, was completely sold out as of the 20th. The 15,000 bottles were expected by HiteJinro to take about four months to sell, so selling out within a month is an unusual sales record considering the relatively high price of 100,000 KRW per bottle (700mL).
HiteJinro cited the distillation method and raw materials as reasons why it takes about a month to resume sales after the initial stock sold out. While typical distilled soju is made using a single distillation method, Jinro 1924 Heritage undergoes three distillation processes, including two additional distillations. In each distillation step, the strongly scented heads and the off-flavored tails are discarded, and only the richly aromatic middle fraction is used to enhance flavor. Due to the added distillation steps, the soju features a smooth finish and a clean aroma.
A HiteJinro representative explained, "By distilling three times, impurities and off-flavors are removed, allowing for a deeper and cleaner taste," adding, "However, the increased number of distillations means more time is required for production." Additionally, since only premium Icheon rice branded as Imgeummyeonpyo is used as the raw material, sourcing the ingredients also takes some time. Although production has been ongoing, the rapid depletion of the product caused some delays in raw material supply.
The HiteJinro representative said, "We are pleased that the value and quality of this high-priced product in the 100,000 KRW range have been recognized," and added, "We will continue to lead the domestic liquor market with products that satisfy consumer needs."
