[Asia Economy (Seongnam) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Seongnam City in Gyeonggi Province paid a total of 1.4 billion KRW in disaster solidarity safety funds, up to 1 million KRW each, to 1,418 citizens affected by the record-breaking heavy rain last month on the 28th.
Seongnam City announced on the 29th that it advanced the payment date, originally scheduled for mid-October, by about a month, judging that support for damage recovery for citizens whose homes, farms, or workplaces were flooded could not be delayed any longer.
The city urgently allocated the disaster solidarity safety funds from contingency funds for this purpose.
The disaster solidarity safety funds were paid to 624 people with flooded houses, 148 with flooded farmland, and 646 small business owners with flooded stores.
A city official explained, "To help stabilize the lives of residents suffering from natural disasters caused by heavy rains such as Typhoon 'Hinnamlo,' we prepared and paid our own disaster solidarity safety funds separately from government and Gyeonggi Province payments."
