Suspect in Sillim-dong Gosiwon Murder to Undergo Detention Hearing Today at 3:30 PM

[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo Byung-don] The suspect in the murder of the gosiwon building owner in Sillim-dong, Gwanak-gu, Seoul, will undergo a pre-trial detention hearing (warrant review) at the court on the 29th.

The Seoul Central District Court announced that it will hold a warrant review at 3:30 p.m. on the same day for the suspect, Mr. A, a man in his 30s, who is charged with robbery and murder.

Mr. A is accused of killing a 74-year-old female building owner of the gosiwon where he lived in Sillim-dong, Gwanak-gu, Seoul, on the morning of the 27th, and stealing her card, bankbook, and approximately 100,000 won in cash before fleeing. The Gwanak Police Station in Seoul applied for an arrest warrant for Mr. A on the 28th.

The victim was found dead with her hands tied in the basement level of a four-story gosiwon in Sillim-dong at around 12:48 p.m. on the 27th.

The police tracked the suspect’s movements by reviewing closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage and urgently arrested Mr. A at a sauna in Seongdong-gu, Seoul, at around 10 p.m. on the same day.

The National Forensic Service conducted an autopsy on the victim and verbally reported that the cause of death was asphyxiation due to neck compression (strangulation).

Mr. A was found to have no specific occupation and apparently did not use the stolen valuables.

A police official stated, "The detailed motive for the crime is under investigation."
