[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Cheol-hyun] Coupang is introducing a digital integrated waste management solution and embarking on logistics waste management based on data. Coupang's logistics subsidiary, Coupang Fulfillment Service (hereinafter CFS), announced on the 28th that it has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with SK Ecoplant to jointly promote an eco-friendly waste management project.

Through this agreement, Coupang will apply an innovative integrated management solution for waste generated at its nationwide business sites. Coupang plans to digitize the entire waste management process from generation, collection, transportation, to final disposal and collect data. Based on the collected data, transparent decision-making and performance measurement will be possible, enabling the establishment of a waste management system optimized for logistics centers.

In particular, Coupang plans to accelerate the strengthening of ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) management by measuring eco-friendly contributions such as waste generation volume and resource and energy recycling rates through the integrated waste management solution. Coupang and SK Ecoplant will collaborate to increase the resource circulation rate using waste and plan to cooperate in introducing eco-friendly energy-related solutions to Coupang’s business sites in the future.

Ryan Brown, CEO of CFS, said, "It is not easy to associate 'high-tech' or 'data science' when looking at trash bins, but waste management is a field where technology must be integrated to solve the environmental problems the world faces." He added, "This project will be an opportunity to manage waste more efficiently and further strengthen the world-class eco-friendly logistics network that Coupang has built."
