Ioniq 5 Wins 'Top 10 Engines' Award from Ward's Auto

'Oscar Award' in the Field of Automotive Powertrain Technology

[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo Hyun-seok] The powertrain system equipped on Hyundai Motor Company's dedicated electric vehicle platform E-GMP has been selected as one of the top 10 engines by a prestigious American automotive media outlet, proving its world-class electrification technology globally.

On the 27th (local time), Hyundai Motor announced that the powertrain system of the Ioniq 5 won the '2022 Wards 10 Best Engines & Propulsion Systems' award, selected by WardsAuto.

WardsAuto, a U.S.-based automotive media outlet, has been selecting the '10 Best Engines' annually since 1995. This award is highly recognized worldwide and is regarded as the 'Oscar' in the automotive powertrain technology field. As electrification trends rapidly advance in the powertrain sector, WardsAuto changed the award name from '10 Best Engines' to '10 Best Engines & Propulsion Systems' starting in 2019.

In its 28th edition this year, the results were based on a comprehensive evaluation of 29 powertrains installed in new vehicles sold in the U.S. by the WardsAuto judging panel, assessing performance, efficiency, and technology to select the final 10 powertrains.

The Ioniq 5's powertrain system, selected as one of the top 10 engines, received high marks for excellent driving performance, ultra-fast charging technology, and single-charge driving range. The Ioniq 5 boasts powerful performance with a maximum output of 239 kW and maximum torque of 605 Nm in the all-wheel-drive version. The long-range model equipped with a 77.4 kWh battery achieves a maximum single-charge driving range of up to 458 km (2WD, 19-inch wheels, without built-in cam).

In particular, based on an 800V high-voltage system, the battery can be ultra-fast charged from 10% to 80% in about 18 minutes, and the Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) function, which supplies general power outside the vehicle, offers customers a new electrification experience.
