[Asia Economy New York=Special Correspondent Joselgina] American automobile company General Motors (GM) has postponed its office return plan due to employee opposition.
According to CNBC on the 27th (local time), GM management announced to employees on the same day that office attendance will not be mandatory until the first quarter of next year. This is a response to growing opposition after the company previously informed employees on the 23rd that they would require at least three days of office attendance per week within this year.
GM postponed the office return schedule and retreated from enforcing a uniform office attendance policy at the headquarters level, allowing individual teams to decide their own schedules. Additionally, the company stated it will gather employee feedback and provide further information by the end of next month.
CEO Mary Barra and other executives explained in a letter, "Our plan is to collaborate to find the best solution that balances the needs of the company and each of you."
