‘Hyundae Family’ Prospective Daughter-in-Law Lydia Ko: "What Do You Do Off the Course?"

[Asia Economy Reporter Noo Rae Noh] What does Lydia Ko (New Zealand, photo), the prospective daughter-in-law of the ‘Hyundai family,’ do outside the golf course?

On the 27th (local time), Golf Digest USA released an interview about Lydia Ko’s daily life. In the interview, Lydia Ko said, “I like cooking,” adding, “It feels very different from golf.” Lydia Ko, who spends most of her time in the kitchen, said, “Sometimes my mom and fianc? ask me, ‘Is it okay to stay in the kitchen all the time? Shouldn’t you take a break?’” and she smiled brightly, saying, “For me, cooking in the kitchen is relaxation.”

Currently ranked 5th in the world, Lydia Ko is a ‘golf prodigy.’ From her amateur days, she dominated the professional stage and even reached the number 1 spot. She debuted on the U.S. Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) Tour in 2014 and has accumulated a total of 17 wins, including 2 major championships. She has won 23 tournaments in the U.S. and Europe.

Lydia Ko is serious about cooking. She often watches videos by the world-renowned culinary expert Gordon Ramsay. She is known as an avid viewer of domestic cooking programs. She especially enjoys Korean food. She is a fan of Korean cuisine such as soy sauce marinated crab (ganjang gejang) and black pork barbecue (heukdwaeji gui). She enjoys Korean TV variety shows and has even visited broadcasting stations to watch shows like ‘Comedy Big League’ and ‘Gag Concert.’

Whenever she has free time, she frequently watches Netflix. Her favorite actor is Korean Wave star Kim Soo-hyun. In 2015, after meeting Kim Soo-hyun and taking a commemorative photo, she could not hide her excitement like a young girl. She posted on her social media Instagram, “I am a huge fan of Kim Soo-hyun,” adding, “I was so happy and nervous to meet him.”

Lydia Ko will marry Jung Joon at Myeongdong Cathedral in Jung-gu, Seoul, on December 30. Jung Joon is the only son of Jung Tae-young, Vice Chairman of Hyundai Card. Lydia Ko’s religion is Catholicism, and Lydia is her baptismal name. They plan to set up their newlywed home in the United States. Lydia Ko will continue her career as a player after marriage. “I don’t know how long I can continue my career, but even if I get married, there will be no change in my career,” Lydia Ko said. “Next year, as a newlywed, I will follow the schedule like any other season,” she added, “My fianc? and my in-laws support me a lot.”
