Guryongpo Youth Training Center Conducts Gyeongbuk Province Public Project 'Fostering Youth's Spirit of Adventure in Nature' Guryongpo Youth Training Center held the first session of the Gyeongbuk Province public project camp, "Youth Cultivating Resilience in Nature," on the 24th.

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Dongguk Lee] The Guryongpo Youth Training Center of the Pohang City Youth Foundation held the first session of the Gyeongbuk Province public project camp titled “Youth Cultivating Resilience in Nature” on the 24th, with about 50 youths participating.

This camp program was developed to help socially disadvantaged youths who are having difficulties establishing self-esteem and self-identity through experiential activities amid the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic. It was selected as a program in this year’s Gyeongbuk Province public project.

The second session is scheduled to be held on October 1.

The program experienced by the youths included a “forest experience” to strengthen peer relationships and appreciate the natural environment in a pristine setting; during lunchtime, activities such as making and eating “mini gimbap and sandwiches” and a “gimbap plating contest” to freely express the youths’ individuality and creativity; “natural dyeing,” where participants dyed handkerchiefs according to their preferences using natural materials like leaves, plants, and flower petals collected from the forest; and “recreational activities,” which involved friendly competitive games with peers to foster cooperation and social interaction.

A student who participated in the camp said, “When I arrived at the training center and looked out at the sea, I felt a refreshing sensation in my heart. Playing fun games with my peers made me realize the preciousness of nature and helped me develop teamwork. Especially, making and eating mini gimbap with our own hands for lunch will be the most memorable experience.”

Yoon Youngran, CEO of the City Youth Foundation, told the youths participating in the camp, “A broad heart that understands and embraces friends is resilience.” She added, “I hope that in the clean environment of the Guryongpo Youth Training Center, you will freely shout and engage in activities to cultivate ‘hoyeonjigi’ (resilience). We will continue to develop and operate beneficial and diverse programs for youths in the future.”
