[Asia Economy Reporter Seongpil Cho] President Yoon Suk-yeol visited the site of the fire at Daejeon Hyundai Premium Outlet, where eight casualties occurred, on the 27th and urged for an accurate investigation into the cause of the fire.
According to the Presidential Office, President Yoon visited the joint memorial altar set up at the fire site around 2:20 p.m. that day to pay his respects and hear about the damage situation. He then encouraged the firefighters on site and comforted the bereaved families. Meeting with the families, President Yoon said, "I am deeply troubled as I do not know how to console you," and added, "I know well that all the victims lived their lives diligently. We will thoroughly analyze the cause of the fire and manage it strictly to ensure that such an incident never happens again," according to a written briefing by Lee Jae-myung, Deputy Spokesperson of the Presidential Office. During the briefing on the damage situation, he also emphasized, "If the underground parking lot was engulfed in flames in an instant, wasn't there a structural problem? Please scientifically and accurately investigate the cause of the fire. Accurate cause analysis is a fundamental function of the state."
President Yoon visited the fire site after completing his schedule at the Sejong Cabinet meeting and a visit to a daycare center.
