Hampyeong-gun Promotes 'Regionally Customized Integrated River Project'

Aiming to Create a 47 Billion Won Hampyeongcheon National Garden, Integrating Ecology, Culture, and Tourism... Expected to Secure Regional Growth Engine

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Chunsu] Hampyeong-gun is accelerating the promotion of the 'Regionally Customized Integrated River Project' to create resident-friendly waterfront spaces.

According to the county on the 27th, a project proposal worth 47 billion KRW was submitted to the Ministry of Environment on the 23rd, targeting Hampyeongcheon, which runs through the main urban area of the region.

The 'Regionally Customized Integrated River Project' is a project promoted by the Ministry of Environment in collaboration with local governments to create safe and clean waterfront spaces by integrating various river projects such as flood control, ecology, and landscape, which had been individually pursued until now.

Through this project, the county aims to expand the ecological wetland park near Hampyeongcheon into a local garden and elevate it to a national garden within three years.

In addition, through integrated management of flood control, water use, and water quality, the project plans to enhance the river's original functions and create an eco-friendly waterfront cultural space by combining the river with the region's cultural, tourism, and social foundations.

The project will select a final 20 projects nationwide among local governments by December and is scheduled to be fully implemented from 2023.

County Governor Lee Sang-ik said, "The development of Hampyeongcheon is a core pledge of the 8th local government administration, so we will devote ourselves to being selected in the competition," adding, "We will do our best to ensure that Hampyeongcheon can leap forward as a prestigious river where ecology, culture, and tourism harmonize through close cooperation with Jeollanam-do."
