Jeongeup-si Secures 46.8 Billion Won Budget for 2023 Disaster Prevention Projects

[Jeongeup=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Jae-gil] Jeongeup City in Jeonbuk announced on the 27th that it has secured a total project budget of 46.8 billion KRW through the Ministry of the Interior and Safety’s ‘2023 Disaster Prevention Project.’

The city plans to focus on natural disaster prevention projects in line with the policy shift from restoration-centered projects to prevention-centered projects.

The secured projects include 24.5 billion KRW for the Natural Disaster Risk Improvement District Maintenance Project, 17.8 billion KRW for the Stormwater Retention Facility Installation Project, and 4.5 billion KRW for the Steep Slope Maintenance Project.

For the Natural Disaster Risk Improvement District Maintenance Project, the city plans to carry out maintenance starting next year with a budget of 14.6 billion KRW for Donggokcheon in Sanwoe-myeon, where frequent flooding occurred during heavy rains, and 9.9 billion KRW for Geumbungcheon in Geumbung-dong.

Additionally, the Stormwater Retention Facility Installation Project will invest 17.8 billion KRW in the Suseong-dong and Jangmyeong-dong areas to install stormwater retention facilities and construct new and renovated stormwater pipelines to prevent flood damage in Jeongeup city during heavy rains.

The Steep Slope Maintenance Project will allocate 4.5 billion KRW to maintain the steep slope collapse risk area in Maejuk-ri, Sannae-myeon, removing hazards such as falling rocks.

This area’s bedrock extends to Local Road No. 55, exposing residents and vehicles to danger, and it is particularly vulnerable to falling rocks during natural disasters such as heavy rains.

Mayor Lee Hak-su said, “The frequency of natural disasters such as heavy rains and typhoons caused by abnormal climate is increasing every year. We will do our best to strengthen disaster prevention capabilities and protect citizens’ lives and property through systematic disaster prevention projects.”

Meanwhile, the city is working on disaster prevention by expanding the installation of early warning systems that measure river water levels in real time to detect flood risks and evacuate nearby residents, as well as disaster and weather alert systems for real-time dissemination of disaster and weather warnings.
