[Hwasun=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Hyuk-jun] Jeonnam Hwasun-gun (Governor Gu Bok-gyu) announced on the 27th that starting next month, it will actively promote the ‘Standing Table Support Project for Senior Centers’ to create an environment where the elderly can use senior centers more comfortably and safely.
The county has initiated support for standing tables to alleviate discomfort caused by joint diseases and other issues, as the elderly spend more time at senior centers enjoying leisure activities and communal meals.
As a result of a demand survey conducted on all 436 senior centers, 379 centers requested the installation of standing tables, while the remaining 57 did not apply due to reasons such as limited space.
Standing tables will be installed next month at the senior centers that requested them, and the tables and chairs to be provided have been designed considering the physical conditions of the elderly.
The tables are expected to be used for various purposes such as meals, meetings, and programs.
Before the full-scale promotion, a standing table was installed at one senior center in Hwasun-eup.
An elderly person using this senior center said, “It is more comfortable because I can sit on the chair to eat as well as conduct meetings and various other activities,” and added, “Many people had difficulty sitting down and standing up, so it is good that the senior center environment is improving.”
Governor Gu Bok-gyu said, “After completing the installation of standing tables, we plan to install safety handrails,” and added, “We will create an environment where the elderly can use senior centers more comfortably and safely.”
