[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Dongdaemun-gu Mayor Ilhyung Lee took on the role of a mentor in person on the afternoon of the 23rd at the Seoul Youth Center Dongdaemun Orang to help young people resolve their employment concerns.


In celebration of Youth Day, Dongdaemun-gu has been holding the ‘2022 Youth Employment Festival’ at the Seoul Youth Center Dongdaemun Orang since the 15th. On the afternoon of the 23rd, current professionals from LG Electronics (HR), Nike (Planning), Disney (Management Support), Megazone (former Google, Sales), and others, along with Mayor Ilhyung Lee, appeared as the ‘Employment Avengers’ and held a ‘Current Employee Talk Concert’ engaging in conversations with young people, drawing attention.


Mayor Lee also participated on-site as an interviewer conducting mock interviews and communicated directly with young people during a Q&A session.


Ilhyung Lee, Mayor of Dongdaemun-gu, encouraged the youth by saying, “Opportunities come to those who prepare. You must clearly set your goals and be fully prepared so as not to miss any opportunity whenever it comes.” He added, “Employment is said to be the biggest concern for young people, and as the mayor standing here, I feel a heavy responsibility. The district office will spare no support to help young people gain more strength.”

Geumcheon-gu (Mayor Seonghun Yoo) conducted a corporate-linked experience program with 15 students from Seoul Magnet High School on the 23rd.


Started in July and now in its second session, the corporate-linked experience program is an excellent company-linked initiative aimed at nurturing talents who will lead future society by utilizing outstanding industrial infrastructure in the region. It provides students with opportunities to visit actual industrial sites, receive advice from experts, and learn about future industries.


The corporate exploration program held that day included ▲Company introduction ▲Special lecture by Yoongeon Choi, a senior staff member responsible for developing the Seven Eleven payment system ▲1:1 mentoring between students and staff ▲Facility tours of data centers and unmanned payment convenience stores and autonomous vehicle experience ▲Presentation of gifts by the head of the management support division.


Senior staff Yoongeon Choi from Lotte Information & Communication, who is in charge of developing the Seven Eleven payment system, shared stories from his high school days, university major selection, overseas volunteer work, and various corporate experiences. He compared his background with the students’ majors and experiences, providing many insights helpful for their career and major choices.


During the subsequent 1:1 mentoring session, students had an honest time discussing employment stories, major selection, and company life.


In the first corporate-linked experience program held in July, 17 students from the Smart Contents Department of Magnet High School participated in an experience at T-Order, a company specializing in tablet menus and robot unmanned ordering.


Geumcheon-gu Mayor Seonghun Yoo stated, “We will continue to develop experience programs that help students find their career paths by cooperating with companies in various fields.”

Online vocational experience education to assist youth in career planning will be held.


Gangseo-gu, Seoul (Mayor Taewoo Kim) announced that the 9th Online DreamJob ‘MyJobWay!’ will be operated continuously until the end of February next year.


Hosted by the Gangseo Career and Vocational Experience Support Center (Director Chunhye Lee), this event provides various career exploration and future career planning opportunities to elementary, middle, and high school students in the region, helping them grow as protagonists of future society.


The participants are about 3,500 first-year students from 22 middle schools in the region and other elementary, middle, and high school students who wish to participate.


The DreamJob Festival, which has been evolving annually with various programs, attracted about 9,000 applicants last year, showing high participation and popularity.


This year, the online experience center, built on a metaverse platform and operated continuously, consists of ▲Career Testing Center ▲Department Exploration Center ▲Job Exploration Center ▲Aviation Job Exploration Center ▲Career Vision Center.


The ‘Career Testing Center’ is a mandatory experience course and a time to ‘find myself.’ Students can take online multiple intelligence tests according to their school level (elementary, middle, high), and based on the results of their strongest intelligences, learn study methods suited to their characteristics.


The ‘Career Exploration Center,’ which nurtures oneself, consists of the ‘Department Exploration Center,’ ‘Job Exploration Center,’ and ‘Aviation Job Exploration Center.’ It provides information on departments related to each intelligence strength, various job information including aviation-related jobs specialized in Gangseo-gu, and interview videos of promising professionals.


In the final stage, the ‘Career Vision Center,’ a space that shapes oneself, students imagine the dreams they will achieve in the future and write a career vision statement. They also fill out career exploration worksheets to design their own career and dreams.


Details about participation can be found on the Online DreamJob ‘MyJobWay!’ website. Upon completion of the experience, participants receive a certificate of completion and recognition of career experience hours.


A district official said, “We hope the DreamJob event will be an opportunity for students to find careers that suit them and concretely plan their dreams and futures. We have also prepared engaging events such as OX quizzes and treasure hunts, so we hope students will joyfully explore new occupational worlds.”


The Gangseo Career and Vocational Experience Support Center will continue to support elementary, middle, and high school students in the region to develop self-directed career planning capabilities and grow as protagonists of future society.

On the afternoon of the 26th, Yeongdeungpo-gu Mayor Hogwon Choi held a business agreement ceremony at the district office communication room with Korea Electric Power Corporation Namseoul Headquarters and KEPCO MCS Namseoul Branch to discover socially isolated households and took a commemorative photo.


This agreement aims to cooperate mutually to discover and support isolated and reclusive crisis households. The main contents include ▲Sharing information on households with sudden changes in electricity usage and delinquency information ▲Actively discovering crisis households during fieldwork ▲Notifying safety check results of households at risk of social isolation and solitary death.


Mayor Hogwon Choi said, “Through this business agreement, we will build a dense social safety net to prevent crisis situations for vulnerable groups such as solitary deaths. We will take the lead in discovering crisis households and eliminating welfare blind spots so that no citizen is left isolated.”
