[Asia Economy Reporter Baek Kyunghwan] President Yoon Seok-yeol has ordered the eradication of crimes affecting the public, such as voice phishing and stalking offenses.
On the 26th, President Yoon held a weekly meeting with Prime Minister Han Duck-soo at the Yongsan Presidential Office building and said, "Please approach this with the determination to declare war on crimes that bring tears to ordinary people and the vulnerable."
In particular, after receiving a report from Prime Minister Han on measures to eradicate voice phishing and countermeasures against brutal crimes such as stalking, President Yoon emphasized, "Protecting the safe daily lives of the people is the government's most fundamental duty." He then instructed the preparation of measures to prevent the fraudulent use of budget phones exploited in voice phishing crimes and the abolition of the non-prosecution agreement for stalking crimes, saying, "Save wasteful budgets and manpower as much as possible and focus resources on eradicating crimes affecting the public."
There was also time to share the achievements of President Yoon's visits to the UK, the US, and Canada and to discuss follow-up measures. President Yoon noted that the international community, including the UN, showed considerable interest and response to the digital leading nation vision revealed through the so-called 'New York Initiative,' and he asked for the new government's digital strategy to be further specified.
Meanwhile, ahead of the weekly meeting, President Yoon presided over a senior secretaries' meeting and instructed follow-up measures regarding the ruling party and government’s 'isolation of 450,000 tons of rice,' saying, "Purchase the rice produced with the farmers' sweat and tears as quickly as possible." A presidential office official added, "This is the fastest announcement of harvest season measures since 2011," and said, "He urged faster and more bold measures so that rice prices can recover early."
