Changnyeong-gun, 9th Self-Building School Entrance Ceremony and Concurrent Return-to-Farming Education

A farmhouse built by a returnee farmer through my own house-building education in Changnyeong-gun, Gyeongnam.

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Wook] Changnyeong-gun, Gyeongnam Province, is providing free education on how to build a house alone for return-to-farm settlers. The county opened the ‘Self House Building School’ at Hyeonchang Branch School on the 24th and is currently conducting classes.

The Self House Building School, operated twice a year, held its first semester classes in March, and the second semester runs every Saturday from the 24th until November 12th. The county subsidizes part of the tuition, allowing students to receive education without a heavy financial burden.

Students participate directly in the entire house-building process, from theoretical education such as architectural sketch drawing techniques to practical training including site preparation, foundation work, insulation work, and roofing work.

Additionally, students have the opportunity to visit houses built by senior graduates of the Self House Building School to gain on-site experience and hear about their seniors’ experiences.

A county official said, “Building the house you want by yourself at low cost is an amazing achievement. We hope this helps people start their second life and settle stably in Changnyeong. Welcome to Changnyeong, which offers the nation’s top-level return-to-farm policies and a well-connected transportation network.”

The Self House Building School not only covers the house-building process but also provides concurrent return-to-farm education, and upon completion, students can receive credit for 60 hours of return-to-farm education.
