[Asia Economy Reporter Park Hyesook] Authorities have launched DNA analysis after a body found in the mudflats of Ganghwa Island, Incheon during the recent Chuseok holiday is suspected to be a man in his 20s who went missing near Gayang Station in Seoul.
On the 26th, the Incheon Coast Guard announced that on the 10th, they requested DNA analysis from the National Forensic Service to identify the body discovered in the mudflats of Ganghwa Island.
The body was found by an angler around 1:46 p.m. on the 10th, the day of Chuseok, near Gwangseongbo in Bureun-myeon, Ganghwa-gun, Incheon.
The body, presumed to be male, was found with only the lower half remaining, wearing pants and sneakers, and was reported to be in an advanced state of decomposition.
According to police investigations, the pants and sneakers worn by the body are similar to those worn by Lee Mo (25), who went missing near Gayang Station in Gangseo-gu, Seoul on the 7th of last month.
Lee was last seen around 1:30 a.m. on the 7th of last month after parting ways with acquaintances near Gonghang Market Station in Gangseo-gu, and was captured on nearby CCTV at 2:15 a.m. heading toward Gayang Bridge from Gayang Station, but has been missing since then.
The Coast Guard stated, "We plan to confirm the exact identity and cause of death based on the DNA analysis and autopsy results from the National Forensic Service."
