Suwon City to Pilot Install 'Unmanned Collection Machines' Ahead of Introducing Deposit System for Disposable Cups

[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Suwon City in Gyeonggi Province has installed 'unmanned disposable cup collection machines' in the lobby of Gwonseon-gu Office and the first-floor lobby of Suwon Venture Valley II Building A, and will operate them on a trial basis until November.

On the 26th, Suwon City announced that ahead of the 'Disposable Cup Deposit System' to be implemented on December 1 this year, it plans to pilot the unmanned disposable cup collection machines to identify issues and areas for improvement.

The Disposable Cup Deposit System refunds 300 KRW in cash when disposable plastic or paper cups, which include a resource circulation deposit (300 KRW), are returned at stores operated by businesses with 100 or more nationwide outlets, such as coffee shops, bakeries, fast food restaurants, and ice cream or bingsu shops.

Until November, Suwon City will collect disposable cups through the unmanned collection machines without refunding the deposit.

SH Tech Co., Ltd., a manufacturer of unmanned collection machines and a tenant of DeltaFlex, proposed the pilot operation of the unmanned collection machines to Suwon City, which accepted the proposal, leading to the pilot project.

A city official stated, "We will monitor issues arising from the pilot operation of the unmanned collection machines together with company representatives and civic groups to devise improvement measures," and emphasized, "We will strive to ensure the Disposable Cup Deposit System, which will be implemented on December 1, is established early."
