Partial Remains of Unidentified Body Found by Fisherman
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Juri] Recently, parts of a body presumed to be that of a man in his 20s or 30s were found on Ganghwa Island, Incheon, and claims have emerged that the body belongs to Mr. Lee, who went missing last month near Gayang Station.
On the 24th, SBS's current affairs program 'I Want to Know That' featured an interview with Mr. A, Lee's maternal cousin.
According to Mr. A, the Incheon Coast Guard reported that on the 10th, a fisherman discovered unidentified body parts near the mudflats close to Gwangseongbo in Buleun-myeon, Ganghwa-gun, Incheon, and called 119. Mr. A asked the Coast Guard if the body parts might be Lee's, and they replied, "After comparing the shoes and other items, they seem similar. DNA testing is needed."
Mr. A visited the police and confirmed that the pants and shoes found with the body parts matched those Lee was wearing on the day he went missing. Mr. A added, "If other body parts are not found within this year, the flowing water current might carry the body northward toward North Korea."
Lee disappeared after parting ways with acquaintances near Gonghang Market Station in Seoul on the 7th of last month. The last sighting was around 2:15 a.m. that day, captured on CCTV near exit 4 of Gayang Station, showing him walking toward Gayang Bridge. Lee's phone was turned off after ending a call with his girlfriend at around 2:30 a.m.
Lee's family and acquaintances created flyers and shared them on social networking services (SNS) and online communities. Lee is 172 cm tall, weighs 60 kg, and has a slim build. On the day he went missing, he was wearing a black short-sleeved T-shirt, beige pants, and white sneakers. He is known to have lettering tattoos on his right wrist and left collarbone.
