[Asia Economy New York=Special Correspondent Seolgina Cho] Jake Sullivan, U.S. National Security Advisor at the White House, stated on the 25th (local time) that he conveyed a warning to Russia through unofficial channels that the use of nuclear weapons by Russia would lead to catastrophe.

Advisor Sullivan appeared on CBS's "Face the Nation" on the same day and said, "The nuclear threat (from Russia) is a matter we must take very seriously."

He explained, "We directly and privately communicated through high-level channels to the Kremlin (the Russian Presidential Office) that the use of nuclear weapons would bring catastrophic consequences to Russia, that the U.S. and its allies would respond firmly, and we conveyed clearly and specifically what would be entailed."

Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin hinted at the possibility of using nuclear weapons when he issued a mobilization order on the 21st. In response, U.S. President Joe Biden strongly condemned President Putin's nuclear threat as "irresponsible" during his speech at the United Nations General Assembly last week.

Advisor Sullivan reaffirmed, "The United States will also respond firmly if Russia uses nuclear weapons," adding, "We will continue to support Ukraine's efforts to defend itself and uphold democracy." He further noted that this includes support related to Ukraine's efforts to reclaim Russian-occupied territories.

Additionally, Advisor Sullivan appeared on NBC's Meet the Press and confirmed that the White House has frequently engaged in dialogue with the Russian government through high-level channels over the past few months. He emphasized, "If Russia crosses the line, there will be fatal consequences for Russia. The United States will respond firmly." However, he did not specify the details or timing of these contacts.
