[Asia Economy Reporter Jeong Hyunjin] Prime Minister Han Duck-soo will visit Japan from the 27th for an overnight stay to attend the state funeral of former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe in Tokyo, representing the Korean government.


According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the 24th, Prime Minister Han will attend the state funeral held at the Nippon Budokan in Tokyo on the 27th to express condolences and offer comfort to the bereaved family and the Japanese people.


The condolence delegation will be led by Prime Minister Han as the head and Jeong Jin-seok, Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly from the People Power Party, as the deputy head. The delegation also includes Yoon Deok-min, Ambassador to Japan, and Yoo Heung-soo, President of the Korea-Japan Friendship Association Central Committee and former Ambassador to Japan. Cho Hyun-dong, First Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Park Seong-geun, Chief Secretary to the Prime Minister, will also accompany the schedule.


After the state funeral, Prime Minister Han will attend a reception hosted by Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida on the same day. A meeting with Prime Minister Kishida is also being arranged during the visit.


On the same morning, Prime Minister Han plans to meet with U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris, who is visiting Tokyo to attend the state funeral, to discuss Korea-U.S. relations, the Korean Peninsula issue, and other global matters. On the following day, the 28th, a meeting with Romanian Prime Minister Nicolae Ciuc? is also scheduled for the morning.


The Ministry of Foreign Affairs also stated that Prime Minister Han will take this opportunity to hold meetings with key figures from Japan’s political, governmental, and business sectors, as well as attend a gathering with representatives of the Korean community in Japan.
