Seoul Design Foundation Hosts Fall/Winter 'Seoul Light' at DDP... Theme: 'Cosmic Life'

From a Fashion Design Perspective: Imagining Diverse Lives in Space as Art

[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] The large-scale light show "Seoul Light," held at Dongdaemun Design Plaza (DDP), will visit citizens twice this year, in autumn and winter. The first event, "Seoul Light Autumn," will be held for ten days from the 30th of this month to October 9th on the museum wall next to the DDP Eoullim Square.

According to Seoul City on the 25th, this year's Seoul Light theme is "Designing Life at the Universe." The theme was selected based on the exterior shape of DDP, which is metaphorically described as a "spaceship landed in the city center." The two editions of , in autumn and winter, will be presented as media art depicting a journey imagining "cosmic life."

The Seoul Light Autumn event, held as a pre-event for the main event in December, showcases the theme of cosmic life through "virtual fashion media art." It highlights various ways and forms of life imaginable in space from the perspective of fashion design. The work applies actual model walking data to express the cheerful and exciting gait of the virtual character "Cosmo Walker," who is walking a path toward a better future in the infinite space called the universe, in the form of subtle wave patterns.

During the main Seoul Light event in winter, from December 16th to January 1, 2023, the main exterior wall video show will be screened, along with a special Christmas video and New Year's event. On Thursday, December 8th, a forum expanding on the Seoul Light theme of "cosmic life" will be broadcast live on YouTube.

Meanwhile, the media art exhibition "Opposites United," embodying Kia's design philosophy, will be held from the 1st to the 23rd of next month at DDP Museum Exhibition Hall 2. The exhibition title "Opposites United" means creating newness by mixing opposing qualities, inspired by nature, combining contrasts to create future-oriented design.

Lee Kyung-don, CEO of the Seoul Design Foundation, said, "'Seoul Light' aims to express life expanded by our imagination from a cosmic perspective through media art," adding, "You will be able to experience DDP surrounded by fantastic lights at this Seoul Light event."
