Choose One Among Three Sets: Tableware, Tools, or Tissue & Towel in the City Youth Policy Introduction Materials
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] On the 25th, the Seoul Metropolitan Government announced that it will support a "Welcome Box" to encourage young people who have moved to Seoul from other regions for various reasons such as studies and employment, and to help them adapt to life in Seoul. The number of recipients has been increased to 6,000, and the system has been improved to allow for in-person pickup in addition to delivery.
The Welcome Box support project is based on the ordinance concerning the activation of the Seoul Metropolitan Government's internet homepage operation. Participants are selected through a survey and lottery, and the project was proposed directly by Seoul youth. It aims to encourage young people who have moved from other cities and provinces to Seoul and to promote Seoul city policies.
The policy introduction materials, consisting of a booklet and two types of cards, were designed to attract the interest of young people. The booklet is structured as a Q&A format where a "Seoul Expert" in their second year of living in Seoul answers questions from newly arrived young residents. The cards categorize young people's concerns and questions into 16 situations, providing a simple overview of policies applicable to each situation. Anyone interested can check the policy introduction materials on the Youth Mongttang Information Platform or the Seoul City e-book.
Additionally, reflecting the opinions of young people through preliminary surveys, the Welcome Box is composed of three types: ▲A dish set to nourish me ▲A tool set to build me ▲A clean set to take care of me (towel, tissue). Individuals can choose one type according to their needs. The policy introduction materials (booklet, cards), which introduce essential policies for Seoul youth, are included in all types.
Kim Cheol-hee, head of the Seoul Future Youth Planning Group, said, "We hope that the Welcome Box, containing policies and daily necessities needed for life in Seoul, will help young people who have started a new life in Seoul for various reasons to settle well in the city." He added, "We will spare no support so that young people living in unfamiliar places can consider Seoul as a reliable shelter."
