[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Seoyoon] Doosan Enerbility has signed a contract worth approximately 540 billion KRW for a combined heat and power plant construction project in Saudi Arabia.
On the 23rd, Doosan Enerbility announced that it had signed a construction contract for the 'Saudi Jafurah Combined Heat and Power Plant' with Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO), the project developer. KEPCO will participate as the developer responsible for project development and operation. Doosan Enerbility will carry out the entire process from design to equipment supply, installation, and commissioning under an EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) contract.
The Jafurah combined heat and power plant will be built about 400 km east of Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia. It is scheduled to be completed in the second half of 2025, and after completion, it will produce 320 MW of electricity and 314 tons of steam per hour to supply power and heat to the nearby Jafurah gas field.
Park Inwon, Head of Plant EPC BG at Doosan Enerbility, said, "Following the Guam Ukudu combined cycle power plant contract won in 2020, we are honored to participate again in overseas power plant construction as Team Korea with KEPCO," adding, "As about 30 GW of combined cycle power plants are expected to be ordered in the Middle East centered on Saudi Arabia over the next five years, we will strengthen our market penetration."
Doosan Enerbility is strengthening its presence in the Saudi market by securing construction contracts worth more than 2.3 trillion KRW in Saudi Arabia this year. In February, it signed a contract to build a casting and forging plant worth 1 trillion KRW, and in August, it succeeded in securing a contract to build a seawater desalination plant worth 840 billion KRW.
