Shinan-gun Leads the Way in Presenting Basic Directions for Garden Policy Establishment

[Sinan=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Jae-kyung] On the 20th, Sinan-gun, Jeollanam-do held an appointment ceremony for the members of the Sinan-gun Garden Culture Promotion Committee and held its first meeting.

This meeting was conducted by forming the Garden Culture Promotion Committee in accordance with the ordinance on the designation of county gardens and fostering the garden culture industry in Sinan-gun, which was established to enable deeper and more systematic policies to be promoted for creating a beautiful Sinan with a lush ecological environment, which is Sinan-gun's top priority policy.

The committee consists of 15 members, including Professor Ahn Ki-gwan of the Department of Forest Resources at Chonnam National University. Over the next two years, it plans to set the basic direction and policies for Sinan-gun's garden policy. Furthermore, it will provide not only humanities education on the value and necessity of Sinan-gun gardens to spread garden culture but also specialized training such as nursery education, garden interpretation, and citizen gardener programs.

As the first agenda item of the meeting, the proposal to designate the Bonsai Garden, Tulip and Red Plum Blossom Garden, and Hydrangea Garden as county gardens was approved with the opinion that they are sufficient to be designated as county gardens after reviewing the area and completeness. In addition, the first Garden Day event will be held on October 4, designated as Garden Day for the 1004 Islands of Sinan-gun, at the lawn square of Sinan-gun Office.

Sinan-gun Governor Park Woo-ryang said in his greeting, “I think that urban gardens and rural fishing villages, especially island gardens, should emphasize their distinctiveness,” and added, “The garden we dream of in Sinan-gun is not just a simple garden but a space that enhances residents' pride and a proud tourist resource that raises our county's brand value, linking it to residents' income increase. For tourists, it will serve various functions such as changing positive perceptions of the islands and providing a resting place.”

Sinan-gun is steadily creating one theme garden per island with the goal of cultivating the 2 billion pyeong 1004 Islands into a beautiful garden while preserving its pristine natural environment, aiming to establish the world's largest island national garden.
