[Asia Economy Reporter Chunhee Lee] The Dementia Overcoming Research and Development Project Group announced on the 21st that it held the launch ceremony of the TRR-DPK system, the first of its kind developed in Korea, on the 20th.
The event, held in the large conference room on the 3rd floor of the Dementia Overcoming Research and Development Project Group in Jongno-gu, Seoul, was attended by about 30 related personnel from domestic dementia brain research institutions, including Seopan Gil, Director of the Korea Brain Research Institute, Kim Bong-su, Director of the Science and Technology Job Promotion Agency, Kim Dong-gi, Director of the Seoul National University Human Biobank, and Jang Byeong-won, Vice Chairman of the Korea Pharmaceutical and Bio-Pharma Association.
The TRR-DPK system is a combination of the 'TRR (Trial Ready Registry),' a prepared patient registry for dementia-related clinical trials, and 'DPK (Dementia Platform Korea),' a domestic dementia research information integration and linkage system.
The TRR, developed for the first time in Korea by the project group, standardizes Alzheimer's disease-related data and has secured samples and imaging data from about 1,000 individuals to date. The project group plans to gradually expand its scale until 2028. The DPK is a system established for the free sharing and exchange of dementia-related information and is available to anyone interested in dementia information.
Kim Haeng-jun, a specialist of the project group, explained the background of building the TRR-DPK system: "While some platforms related to dementia research have been established abroad, there has been a lack of efforts to integrate and link dementia research information domestically, making it difficult to conduct dementia research." He added, "To overcome this, the project group developed it for the first time." It is expected that this will significantly resolve chronic issues in dementia research, such as data non-standardization and research outcome limitations due to the absence of a sharing system.
Project Group Director Muk In-hee also said, "We were able to achieve great results through the help of many related institutions in building the TRR-DPK, the first of its kind in Korea," adding, "By enabling dementia researchers to freely utilize standardized, high-quality human samples and clinical data, it is expected to greatly contribute not only to the activation of dementia research but also to early diagnosis and the development of fundamental treatments for dementia."
The DPK system has been open and operating since last month, and detailed information can be found on the DPK website.
