Damyang-gun Promotes Weekly Events Commemorating Dementia Overcoming Day

Exhibition of Elderly People's Paintings and Non-Face-to-Face Dementia Overcoming WalkOn Challenge Held

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Chunsu] Damyang-gun, Jeonnam announced on the 21st that it will operate a 'Dementia Overcoming Week' until the 2nd of next month to raise awareness and emphasize the importance of dementia management among local residents in observance of Dementia Overcoming Day.

'Dementia Overcoming Day' is a national commemorative day established by the government to widely promote the importance of dementia management and to form a nationwide consensus for overcoming dementia.

This week's events include displaying pop art portraits of the elderly created in dementia patient shelter programs and paintings of Damyang landscapes at the health center, dementia relief center, and Changpyeong health promotion health sub-center, as well as conducting a non-face-to-face dementia overcoming walking WalkOn challenge event until October 25th.

Additionally, customized elderly care service providers and visiting health and welfare services will be provided, and focused promotion will be carried out through 150 locations including the Damyang-gun Dementia Relief Center Kakao channel and community-linked institutions such as welfare centers.

A county official stated, “We will expand management and support such as early dementia screening, treatment management cost support, distribution of identification tags for wandering elderly, shelter programs, family classes, and operation of dementia-friendly villages, and contribute to realizing rural welfare through creating a dementia-friendly environment.”
