Discovering Welfare Blind Spots Through Welfare Registered Mail Delivery
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yukbong] Buk-gu, Gwangju City is working to minimize welfare blind spots through local resources and cooperation.
On the 20th, Buk-gu announced that it will sign a business agreement for a pilot project of welfare registered mail to discover welfare blind spots with the Jeonnam Regional Post Office and the Post Office Public Interest Foundation at the Buk-gu Office 2nd floor situation room on the 21st.
This project, the first to be implemented in Gwangju, operates by sending registered mail containing welfare information to households suspected of being in crisis, and the mail carriers delivering the mail assess whether the household is in crisis and report it to the district office welfare department.
The welfare registered mail is sent monthly to about 300 households selected based on information such as electricity, water, and communication bill arrears, and about 130 mail carriers will be appointed and operated as a crisis household discovery team to improve the efficiency of the project.
Households identified as being in crisis through the project will receive various customized welfare services such as emergency welfare, public and private services in connection with the local administrative welfare center after consultation.
Commissioner Moon said, “We expect this project to be a great help in discovering and supporting welfare crisis households that are not visible,” and added, “We will continue to build a dense welfare safety net with double and triple layers to discover crisis households.”
Meanwhile, Buk-gu is discovering and supporting crisis households through agreements with three convenience store chains and the Dongbuk Waterworks Office, a community-based work institution, and is promoting various projects to build a welfare safety net, such as preventing solitary deaths using an IoT system and providing rewards to residents who discover crisis households.
