[Asia Economy Reporter Jeon Jinyoung] Amid a clear increase in quick commerce users, Homeplus announced on the 20th that its sales doubled within 50 days after eliminating delivery fees for customers using the ‘1-hour immediate delivery’ service.
Since July 1st, Homeplus has offered free delivery benefits to all customers purchasing over 30,000 KRW through the Homeplus Express online 1-hour immediate delivery service. During the 50 days following this change, sales growth nearly doubled (95%) compared to the same period last year.
During the same period, the number of online visitors to Homeplus surged by 293% year-on-year, and the number of active customers who made actual purchases increased by 81%. Orders rose by 78% year-on-year, and the average spending per customer also increased by 7%.
Notably, the number of new customers increased by 81% compared to the 50 days immediately before the free delivery policy was implemented. Reducing the delivery fee burden led to a corresponding rise in new users of the service.
During the 50 days of free delivery service, the most purchased product by quick commerce shoppers was ‘Dwaeji Samgyeopsal Gui (600g)’ (pork belly barbecue), with sales increasing by 378% compared to the same period last year.
Besides samgyeopsal, top-selling products included ‘Antibiotic-Free Nutritional Eggs (25 count)’, ‘Campbell Grapes (2kg)’, ‘Eonyang-style Beef Bulgogi (800g)’, ‘Dwaeji Moksim Gui (600g)’ (pork neck roast), ‘Shine Muscat (1 bunch)’, ‘Frozen LA-style Flower Ribs (1.4kg)’, and ‘Soft Peaches (4-7 pieces)’. These mainly belong to the fresh food category such as meat and fruit. Additionally, staple foods like rice, eggs, milk, and ramen ranked high in quick commerce sales.
To strengthen its quick commerce service, Homeplus has conducted various promotions targeting new customers, resulting in a 62% increase in new customers compared to the previous 50 days (June 12 to July 30).
Homeplus is running the ‘Naemamdaero Golladeal’ (Pick as You Like Deal) promotion, allowing first-time immediate delivery customers to purchase one of several items?Seoul Milk 1L, Nongshim Yukgaejang cup ramen, or thinly sliced pork belly?at 100 KRW.
