[Mokpo=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Jeong Hyeong-seok] Jeollanam-do Mokpo City announced on the 19th that it will open the 'Mokpo Popular Music Hall' (hereinafter referred to as the Popular Music Hall) in the modern historical and cultural space.

The city will hold the 'Mokpo Popular Music Hall Opening Ceremony' at 4:50 PM on the 23rd at the former Honam Bank Mokpo Branch building located in Sangnak-dong 1-ga, attended by Mokpo Mayor Park Hong-ryul, National Assembly member Kim Won-i, City Council Chairman Moon Cha-bok, city council members, and officials from the Cultural Heritage Administration.

The Popular Music Hall is a space utilizing the Honam Bank building. Honam Bank is the only modern financial architectural structure remaining in Mokpo since the port opening and was a national bank established and operated by Koreans, holding very high architectural and historical symbolic value.

Additionally, by restoring the original form of Honam Bank, it faithfully reproduces the lifestyle of modern Mokpo, where the economy prospered as a trading port and popular culture such as music blossomed.

The first floor is an open space preserving the modern architectural structure, operating a visitor information platform promoting the history of Honam Bank and the modern historical and cultural space, and also features a '5G Modern VR Experience Center.' The second floor showcases the flow of Korean popular music developed in Mokpo and a special exhibition of popular music singers such as In Na-young. The annex is composed of an experiential exhibition space including a modern music cafe, modern costume experience, beat maker (composition experience), and a four-cut photo booth.

To commemorate the opening, the first-floor hall will host the 'Modern Interpretation of Joseon Dynasty Wooden Furniture Exhibition' by artist Kim Gun-seon of Art Furniture, and on the day of the opening ceremony, the parking lot will be decorated as the 'Mokpo Cultural Heritage Night Tour' music zone, where the Autumn Night Symphony concert will be held from 7 PM.

A city official said, “We ask for the citizens' great interest and visits to the Mokpo Popular Music Hall, which will be the anchor facility (tourism, culture, arts, leisure, etc.) of the Mokpo Modern Historical and Cultural Space, known as the roofless modern history museum.”
