Village Management Committee Holds Various Commemorative Events
Sacheon-si, Gyeongnam is holding a tape-cutting ceremony for the Jeongdong Area Creative Village Project.
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] Sacheon City, Gyeongnam Province, announced on the 19th that it has completed the 'Jeongdong Area Creative Village Making Project,' which was promoted as part of the general rural agricultural and fishery development project, three years after its groundbreaking on the 17th.
The Jeongdong Area Creative Village Making Project is a public contest project by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs aimed at improving quality of life and revitalizing the community through expanding welfare and educational service spaces for residents, convenience facilities, and strengthening regional capabilities.
In 2020, the city invested a total project cost of 3.3 billion KRW to build infrastructure for revitalizing rural communities in the Jeongdong area, including a 116㎡ cultural exchange center, a 200㎡ multipurpose gymnasium, and a 420m walking trail around Yesu Village.
The newly constructed cultural exchange center and multipurpose gymnasium will be used as spaces for residents' cultural and welfare program operations, as well as diverse educational activities and exhibitions.
Accordingly, the Jeongdong Area Creative Village Operation Committee held a commemorative event on the 17th attended by about 200 people, including Mayor Park Dong-sik, Ahn Gyu-tak, head of the Sacheon City branch of the Korean Senior Citizens Association, provincial council members, city council members, related organizations, and local residents.
Choi Jin-yeol, chairman of the Village Operation Committee, said, "I am pleased that a valuable space for regional development has been established with the construction of the Jeongdong Area cultural welfare space," and added, "I hope that various activities of the local community will further develop in the newly transformed rural village through this project."
A city official stated, "We hope that the various education, culture, and welfare service bases created through this project will serve as an opportunity to resolve the imbalance between urban and rural areas," and urged, "Continuous interest and participation from the operation committee and residents are necessary to further develop the local community in the future."
