[Asia Economy Reporter Ryu Tae-min] Park Jung-woon, a singer who gained popularity in the early 1990s with hit songs such as 'On a Night Like Tonight,' passed away on the afternoon of the 17th at the age of 57 due to a chronic illness.

According to fellow singer Park Jun-ha on the 18th, the late artist, born in 1965, had deteriorating health due to cirrhosis and diabetes and ultimately passed away at Seoul Asan Medical Center, where he was hospitalized for liver surgery, without recovering.

Park Jung-woon debuted in 1989 with his first album 'Who, Me?' and gained attention in the music industry when the track 'When Tomorrow Comes,' released in 1990 alongside Oh Seok-jun and Jang Pil-soon, became popular. He then rose to fame as a representative singer of the early 1990s with the sensational hit 'On a Night Like Tonight' released in 1992. He continued to release hit songs such as 'Far Away Days' (1992) and 'Love Only for You' (1993).

In 2017, Park Jung-woon was involved in a cryptocurrency fraud case and was investigated. The following year, he was sentenced to eight months in prison with a two-year probation. It was reported that he expressed his innocence to colleagues at the time and suffered from stress.

In 2020, Park Jung-woon worked on a new album with Park Jun-ha, whom he had known for over 30 years, but when his voice failed to come out, he found it strange and was diagnosed with cirrhosis and diabetes during a hospital visit. Although he received treatment afterward, it was reported that the illness did not improve significantly due to the severity of his condition.
