[Asia Economy Reporter Kwak Min-jae] French President Emmanuel Macron condemned the discovery of a mass grave in Izium, Ukraine, following the withdrawal of Russian troops, calling it an act of Russian brutality.
On the 16th (local time), AFP quoted President Macron's Twitter account, reporting, "I strongly condemn in the strongest terms the atrocities committed in Izium, Ukraine, which was occupied by Russia. The perpetrators will be held accountable for their actions."
Earlier, Ukraine raised suspicions of Russian war crimes after approximately 450 bodies and 10 torture chambers were found in Izium, a city in the eastern Kharkiv region, following the withdrawal of Russian forces. Russia has denied allegations of civilian killings in Ukraine.
The United States and the European Union (EU) also pointed to Russia as responsible. U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken stated that Russia is acting horrifically and will be held accountable for war crimes.
Josep Borrell, the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, said on the same day, "The EU is deeply shocked by the inhumane actions of the Russian military."
