Gwangyang City Council Opens Citizen Open Space 'Shimteo'

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Heo Seon-sik] The Gwangyang City Council of Jeollanam-do (Chairman Seo Young-bae) announced on the 15th that it has renovated the first-floor council members' meeting room into an open space for citizens called the ‘Shimteo’ (Resting Place), allowing citizens to use it freely.

On the same day, the council held an opening ceremony for the 「Shimteo」 attended by over 50 people, including all council members, Jung Hwa-bok, President of the Gwangyang Women Writers Association, Park Shin-ae, Vice President of the Jeollanam-do branch of the Korea Fine Arts Association, and staff from the council secretariat, officially starting its operation.

The ‘Shimteo’ is available for citizens visiting the council to rest or use as a meeting place, equipped with various free convenience facilities such as computers, printers, meeting tables, and coffee machines.

The city council stated that, through the talent donation of the Gwangyang Women Writers Association and the Gwangyang Fine Arts Association, local artists' artworks will be exhibited monthly to provide citizens with opportunities to experience culture and arts, and a corner promoting local specialties has also been installed.

Chairman Seo Young-bae said, “The 9th City Council has lowered the threshold to approach citizens and created the citizen open space 「Shimteo」 to build a council that empathizes and communicates with citizens,” adding, “We hope it will be activated as a healing place where rest and culture coexist.”

Meanwhile, the citizen open space is available free of charge from Monday to Friday.
