Gurye-gun Holds Public Hearing on Specialized Regeneration Activation Plan

Successful Urban Regeneration Project Driven by Diverse Local Community Opinions

[Gurye=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yuk Mi-seok] Jeollanam-do Gurye-gun (Governor Kim Soon-ho) held a public hearing on the ‘Specialized Regeneration Urban Regeneration Activation Plan (Draft)’ at the Gurye-eup Office Multipurpose Room on September 14.

The public hearing was held with local residents, experts, and public officials in attendance, explaining the Specialized Regeneration Urban Regeneration Activation Plan (Draft), followed by opinion gathering and a Q&A session.

This public hearing was held to apply for a specialized regeneration contest project, including urban branding using local unique resources and renovation of aging residential areas, in line with the new urban regeneration promotion direction of the Yoon Seok-yeol administration.

The project is named "Our Wheat Plus Bongnam Connecting with the Phoenix" and is planned to be promoted centered around the Bongnam-ri Village Hall and Senior Center area in Gurye-eup. If selected, the project period will be four years from 2023 to 2026.

The total project cost is 31.517 billion KRW, including linked local government projects such as urban planning road construction and slate support, and linked projects from other institutions such as the LH repair and maintenance allowance project. Of the total project cost of 31.517 billion KRW, 20.05 billion KRW will be invested as seed money.

The main contents are as follows: First, the main project is the Breadfit Our Wheat Center, planned to utilize the Bongnam-ri Village Hall and the adjacent public parking lot. The first floor will include a parking lot, senior center, and village hall; the second floor will have a wheat promotion, exhibition, sales area, and village promotion hall; the third floor will feature a cooking room, yeast laboratory, and experience hall; and the fourth floor will have a cafe overlooking Gurye.

Second, support for home repairs for 159 households and renovation of one vacant house, along with a 1,100m Bread Road connecting the base parking lot and Our Wheat Bread Center, are planned. Additionally, installation of smart fire safety facilities and intelligent CCTV necessary for residents' safety is also planned.

The county plans to carry out necessary administrative procedures such as gathering opinions from the county council in the future and contribute to job creation and economic revitalization in the local community, which has been struggling due to flood damage and COVID-19, through successful urban regeneration project promotion.

Kim Soon-ho, Governor of Gurye-gun, said, “We will establish the Specialized Regeneration Urban Regeneration Activation Plan by reflecting the contents discussed at this public hearing and the opinions presented by local residents as much as possible,” and added, “We will do our best to maximize synergy by linking it with the existing urban regeneration projects being promoted.”
