Jeongeup-si Promotes 'Danpungmirak' Using Local Specialty Products


[Jeongeup=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Jaegil] Jeongeup City in Jeonbuk has launched a promotion for its representative dish "Danpungmirak," which utilizes local specialties, to celebrate the autumn foliage season.


According to the city on the 14th, "Danpungmirak" is Jeongeup's representative dish created through expert research and development, embodying the unique emotions and nostalgia of the region as local cuisine has emerged as an important element of tourism resources.


With the goal of fostering healthy food using local specialties and developing representative local dishes, two signature dishes?Oat Tteokgalbi and Ssanghwa Tea Aged Kimchi Samhap?were developed in 2016.


These signature dishes can be enjoyed at a total of 10 locations: Okdol Saenggogi, Ssamchon, Naejangsan Myeonginkan, Ilsongjeong, Singane Jeongeup Gukbap, Jeongeup Hanwoo, Jeongeup Nokdujanggun (Suncheon) Rest Area, Jeongeup Nokdujanggun (Cheonan) Rest Area, Hwadeok Galbi Jeongeup Branch, and Sunchang Branch.


Oat Tteokgalbi is made with oats rich in dietary fiber and Korean pork and Hanwoo beef, which are high in vitamins and beneficial for anti-aging.


In particular, oats, which account for 70% of production in Jeongeup, have gained attention after being selected as one of the world's top 10 superfoods by the American Times. Compared to other grains, oats are rich in protein, essential amino acids, and soluble fiber.


Ssanghwa Tea Aged Kimchi Samhap consists of fresh pork belly marinated in Ssanghwa tea, then boiled with ingredients used to make Ssanghwa tea such as ginger, bay leaves, green onion roots, onions, and shiitake mushrooms.


Adding grilled bellflower root, aged kimchi, and boiled pork infused with the deep aroma of Ssanghwa tea creates a combination that evokes admiration.


A city official said, "We will spare no effort in continuous promotion to publicize Danpungmirak," and added, "We hope Danpungmirak will contribute to introducing Jeongeup to tourists visiting the city during the peak autumn outing season."
